Who We Are

Amarus is an integrated international biofuels merchant company that sources and markets a wide range of biofuel-related materials.

Established in 2019, Amarus is a privately held group focused on physical trading of biofuel-related products.

Our headquarters is in Singapore with a global network of subsidiaries and partners in Asia and Europe. With offices and team members strategically located across the world, Amarus’s team consists of experienced, professional, and reliable members of the biofuels industry throughout the past decade.

What We Do

Amarus main area of focus is in the physical trading of certified sustainable biofuels and their feedstocks taking advantage of an optimized and integrated supply chain. Amarus also sources and trades a whole spectrum of feedstocks for the renewable industry but its main product range are biofuel’s feedstocks & bioproducts.

Biodiesel refers to a vegetable oil or animal fat-based diesel fuel consisting of long chain alkyl (methyl, ethyl or propyl) esters. Biodiesel is typically made by chemically changing reacting lipids (e.g. vegetable oil, soybean oil, animal fat (tallow) with an alcohol producing fatty acid esters.

Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines. Biodiesel can be used with petro diesel in the proportions under 30%, like B5,B7,B10,B20,B30. Biodiesel blends can also be used as heating oil.

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (Renewable Diesel) is an advanced biofuel that is made from the same renewable resources as biodiesel but using a process that involves heat, pressure and hydrogen to create a cleaner fuel that’s chemically identical to petroleum diesel. That similarity means 100 percent renewable diesel can be used in most diesel engines without modifications.

Bioethanol fuel has an important role in the field of environmental conservation by mitigating global warming and conserving fossil fuel. It is a high octane number biofuel which is produced from fermentation of corn, potatoes, grain (wheat, barley and rye), sugar beet, sugar cane and vegetable residues.

UCO’s are oils and fats that have been used for cooking or frying in the food processing industry, restaurants, fast foods and at consumer level, in households.

We have built up our upstream capabilities in supplying used cooking oil and other waste-based feedstocks for biodiesel production. Amarus UCO is ISCC certified to comply accordingly with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) in Europe.

During crushing of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to produce CPO, large quantities of steam and hot water are used to separate the palm fruit from the FFB. Such hot water is let out into open ponds, and this is known as Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME). POME is non-toxic waste, as no chemical is added during the oil extraction process. This POME is skimmed from the surface, cleaned to reduce Moisture & Impurities and sold as POME or Sludge Palm OIL (SPO) or Palm Acid Oil (PAO).

In recent years, POME is also gaining prominence as a feedstock for biodiesel production, especially in the European Union. The use of POME as a feedstock in biodiesel plants requires that the plant has an esterification unit in the back-end to prepare the feedstock and to breakdown the FFA.

POME is an International Sustainability & Carbon Certification body (ISCC) certified product and is eligible for double counting.

Glycerol (also known as glycerin) is a major byproduct in the biodiesel manufacturing process. In general, for every 100 Metric Tons of biodiesel produced, approximately 8 Metric Tons of crude glycerol are created. Crude glycerin can be refined to obtain refined glycerin with a purity of more than 99%. Glycerine is a water-soluble, clear, almost colorless, odorless, viscous, hygroscopic liquid with a high boiling point and has over 1500 known end uses. Major, or large volume, applications include some dozen different categories that range from foods to soaps and detergents.
